Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions
2. Where is YEHALABS located?

YEHALABS is based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Please refer to the map below to locate our makerspace.

Visits are by appointment only.

3D Printing Services

We work with several materials including:

  • PLA

  • ABS

  • PETG

  • TPU

  • Recycled PET filament

  • Other materials, depending on project requirements

Yes. YEHALABS promotes sustainable manufacturing by recycling waste plastic bottles in Ethiopia and converting them into materials suitable for selected 3D printing applications.

We commonly accept:

  • STL

  • OBJ

  • STEP

  • 3MF

  • CAD design files

If you are unsure about your file format, feel free to contact us.

No problem. We also provide 3D modeling and product design services based on sketches, ideas, images, or technical requirements.

Production time depends on:

  • Model size

  • Material type

  • Print complexity

  • Finishing requirements

  • Quantity ordered

Small projects may take a few hours, while larger projects may take several days.

The minimum material order for filament-related services is typically 100 grams, unless otherwise specified.

No, if you don’t have one, we can model your part for you through our 3D Modeling service, then print it.

For larger or more complex orders, we’re happy to share progress photos on request.

3D Modeling Services

That’s enough to start; we’ll work with you to refine it into an accurate model.

Yes, with clear reference photos and measurements, or the object itself if local.

3D Modeling produces the digital file only. If you also want it printed, that’s a separate step we can combine into one order.

Makerspace

No, our team is there to support you whether it’s your first time or your fiftieth.

In most cases, yes; let us know what you’re working with when you book so we can confirm compatibility.

Yes, teams and small groups are welcome; reach out to arrange a session that fits your group size.

Medical & Assistive Devices

Yes, a doctor/clinician is directly involved in the design and review process for our medical and assistive devices, working alongside our engineering team to help assess fit, function, and clinical suitability. We also offer a virtual and/or physical meeting with our specialized doctors, so you can discuss your specific case directly before moving forward.

Not always, but we strongly recommend professional assessment for medical devices; we’ll ask about this during intake.

Yes, we’ve worked with NGOs, and embassy-backed programs on exactly this kind of multi-patient work.

Our use of recycled PET material keeps costs down and supports sustainable production, which matters especially in resource-limited settings.

Consultancy

That’s fine; consultancy is often most useful early, before a concept is locked in.

No, consultancy covers guidance and direction. 3D printing, 3D modeling, or prototyping are separate services we can move into afterward.

Primarily yes; our expertise is strongest in 3D printing, fabrication, robotics, and related engineering.

Prototyping

A standard print order is for a finished part. Prototyping is a process: multiple fast iterations focused on testing and refining, not a single final output.

No, early prototypes are usually about function and fit, not appearance. We can discuss finish quality at whatever stage you need it.

Yes, once a design is validated through prototyping, we can move directly into a full 3D printing or manufacturing order.

Automotive Parts

Yes, we can model directly from a physical sample, which is how most automotive requests start.

It depends on the part’s function; we’ll recommend printing, casting, or a combination based on the stresses the part needs to handle.

We assess each request individually; reach out with details on your vehicle and part, and we’ll confirm feasibility.

Payments and Pricing

Yes. Most projects require an advance payment before work begins.

Typical payment structure:

  • 50% advance payment or a minimum of 500 Birr

  • Remaining balance before final delivery

Refunds are generally not available for customized services once work has started unless the issue is caused directly by YEHALABS.

Please review our Refund & Returns Policy for more details

Orders may be canceled before production or work begins. Once production, design, or development work has started, cancellation fees or non-refundable charges may apply.

STEM and Robotics Training

Yes. YEHALABS offers STEM and robotics programs designed to help children develop creativity, problem-solving skills, and practical technology experience.

Refunds are generally not available for customized services once work has started unless the issue is caused directly by YEHALABS.

Please review our Refund & Returns Policy for more details

Yes. We also provide workshops, technical training, and consultancy services for schools, organizations, startups, and professionals.

Product Development and Consultancy

Yes. We assist with:

  • Product concept development

  • Prototyping

  • 3D design

  • Technical consultancy

  • Manufacturing guidance

Yes. We provide customized solutions based on client requirements, including software systems, automation concepts, educational tools, and hardware-related projects.

Delivery and Support

Yes. Delivery options may be available across Ethiopia depending on the project and logistics arrangements.

If an issue occurs due to our production or service process, we will review the situation and may provide:

  • Repair

  • Replacement

  • Reprint

  • Partial refund

  • Service credit

depending on the situation.

You can request a quotation by contacting us through our website, email, or social media pages and sharing your project details, files, or requirements.
